puzzle solved

One of the things my mom and I always enjoyed doing together were puzzles. I remember her always picking out these elaborate 1000 piece jigsaw puzzles where there had to be at least 100 pieces that looked almost exactly the same. I remember her technique. She’d start along the edges to make a frame. She’d go through and pick out all of the pieces that were similar in color and work in sections. She would study pieces, notice their variation and then figure out how it would come together or realize that it wouldn’t. When she got stumped, she would put it aside, dare my little sister to touch it, and come back and look at it with fresh eyes. Sometimes she would be able to put pieces together that she’d overlooked before, other times she’d discover a mistake that was throwing everything else in the puzzle off.

I didn’t have a technique. I was looking through all of the pieces. Often only putting 2 pieces together at a time, lol. I’m sure I probably spent more time learning her technique than actually contributing to the project. I was a kid, what do you expect?

Anyway, the Baby sent me a text today: We fit together like 2 pieces to a puzzle.

I love her…
